The Return with the Elixir

Home, changed

The hero comes back transformed. Today's gymnasts perform skills that earlier generations would have thought impossible, helped by better coaching, safer equipment such as sprung floors and landing mats, and a deeper understanding of training and recovery.

New stars, new voices

Simone Biles of the United States has won more world championship medals than any other gymnast and has spoken openly about mental health in elite sport. Athletes today have a louder voice in how their sport is run.

What gymnastics gives

Most people who do gymnastics never reach the Olympics. Clubs and schools around the world teach it as a way to build strength, balance, coordination and confidence. From a Greek gymnasion to a local gym hall, the journey comes full circle: the movement was always for everyone.
